Led by frontman Arfa, known for collaborations with Isaac Holman (Soft Play) and Kate Nash, Bones Ate Arfa have carved out a niche with their gritty sound and dynamic live performances. Their stature on social media platforms like TikTok has opened doors to high-profile connections – bands like Bad Nerves and solo artist LOU, and even respected acts Royal Blood and Tigercub have taken notice. Early support from BBC Radio 6 Music and Radio X further solidifies their growing influence in the UK music scene.
Akimbo People, the latest single from Bones Ate Arfa, serves up a thrill ride of crushing guitar tones, uplifting vocal melodies, and an electrifying energy that’s impossible to shake. Rough-hewn guitars collide with raw, unfettered energy in this adrenaline shot of a track. Snarling bass and pugnacious drums buttress the dual guitar attack, bringing to mind the headbanging halcyon days of Royal Blood and Queens Of The Stone Age, if those legends were reimagined for the current unrest. With vocals that veer wildly from eerie, atmospheric whispers to anthemic, gut-punching hooks, Arfa masterminds an alt-rock soundtrack that’s equal parts mystique and dynamism.

Bristol post garage punk
"Bristolian trio Holy Popes release their self-titled debut album and it's making no compromises in sound or attitude. “We didn’t care. We were just making exactly what we wanted with no intention of thinking about labels, tours, fans…it made us excited again.”
Holy Popes are no strangers to creating distorted worlds whilst sticking up two fingers to the man. Now, they are set to release their debut self-titled smoking gun of spiky punk, as their music becomes the voice for the oppressed.
Formed from former 80s Matchbox member Dom Knight and drummer Luke Bujniewicz in 2020, the band bring a twitching glimpse at something promising…something brewing in the seedy underbelly of post-garage punk.
A fusion of Iggy Pop‘s dynamics and The Damned‘s fused fury, Holy Popes (now a trio with the addition of bassist Liam Dowling) are a force to be reckoned with. Not just in the city walls of Bristol, but internationally scoping the lengths of just how far such a band can go.
To put it simply, Holy Popes self-titled debut expresses their freedom, a band creating the music they want to create. It’s universally punk, and quintessentially Holy Popes. If you don’t know what that may sounds like, boy, are you about to." Alex Curle - www.punktuationmag.com
