MARTIN CHAMBERS

Martin Chambers is a founding member of The Pretenders and their long-term drummer, playing a major part in their sound and success. They formed in early 1978, with lead vocals by Chrissie Hynde, also the main songwriter, and had a string of hits, including Brass in Pocket, a number one in 1980, Talk of the Town, I Go to Sleep, Back on the Chain Gang and Don’t Get Me Wrong. He wrote and sang vocals on the song Fast or Slow (The Law’s the Law), the B-side of 1983’s 2000 Miles. Martin left the band in the mid-eighties, during the recording of their fourth album, Get Close, then rejoined for 1994’s Last of the Independents, which included I’ll Stand by You.
